Since it is common for a DRA to go unnoticed by the patient and undiagnosed by the physician, patients may seek PT treatment with another musculoskeletal or neuromuscular diagnosis such as low back pain or pelvic floor dysfunction. These conditions may be comorbidities of DRA which can affect the course and prognosis of both. It is therefore important for physical therapists to understand this connection and routinely check for a diastasis as part of any evaluation and know how to treat a diastasis with the research and evidenced based Tupler Technique®.
