Here’s a story that speaks to who we are and what we can do as a community!
MEET KIM FORMBY, OT and read what she is up to when not running her pediatric practice, Acadia Therapy Services in Maine.
Many years ago, Sandy Dorsey, MS CCC-SLP contacted me asking for guidance for her NYC private practice. Her email salutation included Smiles for Speech, a 501C, and it piqued my interest. Once the consult ended, I turned off the clock, turned on my heart and asked about it. We both agreed it would be great to get OTs involved and I knew I could help her. When I sent out an eblast like this in 2019/20, Kim Formby, a private practice owner saw it, and the rest is history. Three years later, she has been to Kenya twice and Ghana once, and has become the organization’s first OT board member. This summer she will be going to Ghana for the 2nd time (along with an OT Level 1 fieldwork student) and will go to Jamaica with Sandy to help set up programs there.
The planned 2023 summer trip to Kenya has been cancelled due to current unrest in the country, but the group anticipates many future trips and needs for additional OT volunteers (PTs and STs too) in the future.
